Yesteryear Collection

In November of 1948, the very first all-Australian car to bear the famed Holden nameplate rolled off the line at General Motors - Holden's Limited plant at Fishermans Bend, Australia. It was said that Prime Minister J. B. Chifley couldn't have been prouder if Australia had put a man on the moon. The Holden was "Australia's own." the first production car designed and built in Australia. It was an instant sensation and, within a few years, Holdens oursold every other marque in the nation.
The rapid growth of general motors-Holden's Limited throughout the '50s is one of Australia's greatest success stories. In fact, the factory could never seem to keep pace with demand. But the company decided to diversify into the realm of commercial vehicles nonetheless. In no time, the Holden panel van was preferred by tradesmen, commercial travellers and many others who needed a vehicle that could handle "a thousand and one uses."
This replica is a recreation of a van operated by the Temora District Ambulance Brigade in NSW, who valued its ability to provide speed (and a measure of comfort) for emergencies in many different types of terrain.
